How Safe Is Atlanta Airport
Crime in the city of Atlanta dropped in 2023. Mayor Andre Dickens and Chief Darin Schierbaum should be commended for their efforts to make Atlanta safe again. But when it comes to the airport safety is severely compromised.
What measures need to be put in place to make it a safe place to decrease the robberies, assaults, guns and trafficking? Deputy General Manager Jan Lennon has been briefed several times on the issues that plague the airport. She has yet to execute a strategic plan that outlines the necessary steps needed to enhance safety measures for employees, vendors, passengers and volunteers. Her concern is less about the safety and more about promotion. Jan Lennon has initiated a less than traditional promotional plan for her assistant Shermaine Freeman who has gone from assistant/secretary to assistant director and now "interim" airport director in less than a year. It is evident that the promotions come from "loyalty" and not job-related talent or requirements at Atlanta Airport. Jan Lennon is no exception and has no care or concern for her staff members especially those in Maintenance. Many maintenance employees have been working for years but have not received any promotions or increases. But the former maintenance secretary is now a director? Human Resources Director April Broaders approved the latest interim position which is just a method to pay the "assistant" more money while allowing her the time to attempt to find a way for her to qualify for a role everyone knows she does not really qualify for. It is impressive to go from selling clothing at ZARA to being an airport director. Tenured employees are upset about how promotions are given based on loyalty, favoritism and last but not least "friends and family".
Commissioner Tarlesha Williams Smith
Complaining to Human Resources is pointless, but if you complain to the HR Commissioner Tarlesha Williams-Smith (if she is actually in Atlanta and not in Florida running her law firm or other businesses) it will not go far because Jan Lennon is her sorority sister. According to recent open records requests Tarlesha Williams-Smith (Known as the City Girl Commissioner) uses the city's budget like her own checkbook and has questionable hiring practices similar to Atlanta Airport (aka friends/family). The City Girl Commissioner spends a majority of her time in Florida but returns to Atlanta to spend lavishly and cause havoc for those who are not loyal to her. The safety of passengers and wellbeing of employees are obviously not concerns for the City of Atlanta leadership. The concern is how many family, friends, and assistants can be added to the City of Atlanta's payroll without any backlash or repercussions.
How many City of Atlanta leaders have family members working within their organizations?
